Rohan Chakravarty and the Power of Art

Rohan Chakravarty: cartoon

Inspired by the stories of period shaming documented in Period Matters, and moved by Kripa Bhatia’s visual exploration of the lived realities of menstruation, cartoonist and illustrator Rohan Chakravarty responded through his own distinctive medium.

As the creator of Green Humour, a series of cartoons, comics, and illustrations focused on wildlife and nature conservation, Rohan brought his storytelling and visual language to the subject of menstruation, creating a cartoon story that explores the stigma and social attitudes surrounding periods. His work demonstrates how Period Matters as a book, moves beyond documenting experiences to inspiring artists and activists to interpret these stories through different creative forms. By bringing menstrual experiences into cartoons, illustrations, writing, and other forms of expression, these artists help make conversations around periods more accessible, relatable, and visible.

In this way, Period Matters has become a catalyst for awareness—connecting lived experiences with creative voices and encouraging wider conversations around menstrual stigma, dignity, and inclusion. All the many voices in Period Matters, combine to make this possible.
